ADDENDUM TO YESTERDAY'S POST
You may have seen my post recommending Youtube and Twitch channels and saw me mention the one for Power Rangers.
"But Mr. Whammy, what if I want my Ranger action unadulterated by Americanization?"
Then let me introduce you to:
What's this you ask? It's the branch of Shout! Factory that deals in Tokusatsu
(kids, go google that instead of making me do a dissertation on what it is)
Basically, Toku is the genre of Japanese TV that cover things like Super Sentai (which became Power Ranger footage starting mid 90s), Kamen Rider, and Ultraman.
ALL OF WHICH ARE AVAILABLE VIA THE
TOKUSHOUTSHU LIBRARY
For you fans of masked riders (yes, I know i made a joke using the title of the Americanized title of attempt #1 to bring it the US):
- Kamen Rider Ryuki (what we attempted to adapt as Kamen Rider: Dragon Knight)
- Kamen Rider Zero-One (it has nothing to do with the year 2001)
- Kamen Rider Geats (the latest one added to the library)
AND THE HOLY GRAIL, FOR KAMEN RIDER FANS...
THE ORIGINAL SERIES FROM 1973, EVEN WITH SHOCKER POSSIBLY HAVING TIES TO A CERTAIN ORGANIZATION I WON'T MENTION
For Sentai (be sure that first letter is S when you Google is and NOT an H)
- Jetman
- Zyuranger (source for a lot of Mighty Morphin season 1's footage)
- Dairanger (source for Mighty Morphin Season 2's Zords, monsters, as well as Tommy's new White Ranger suit and powers)
- Kakuranger (source for all the Mighty Morphin' Season 3 Zords for the Angel Grove team, the monsters, and the Battle Borgs and morphed suits for the Aquitarian Rangers)
- Ohranger (Zeo, 'nuff said)
- Carranger (probably better than the Power Rangers Turbo season we got, according to fans. Plus NO MID-SEASON RANGER SUBSTITUTIONS)
- Megaranger (man did they bring THIS Sentai's footage out of its original context when making Power Rangers in Space)
- Gingaman (spoiler, the Pink Ranger doesn't die here like in Power Rangers Lost Galaxy)
- GoGoFive (Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue, minus the US-exclusive Titanium Ranger)
- TimeRanger (US sends their Tine Force Pink Ranger from the future, while the Sentai in Japan sends 4.... and still have the Pink Ranger be one of the time-traveling heroes)
- Gaoranger (Power Rangers Wild Force.... I wonder if they did an episode similar to our Forever Red special and if so, how far back it went in the Sentai lineage)
- Hurricaneger (Ninja Storm...also, careful spelling the Sentai's name on Google)
As for Ultraman... there's WAY too many for me to list in this blog post, so have a link (brought to you by Tubi)
