YOUTUBE & TWITCH CHANNEL RECOMMENDATIONS
(THAT ARE NOT NAMED "SMASHWHAMMY")
There's some channels on Youtube & Twitch that I keep coming back to, including some notable names in their respective professional fields that they do outside social media as well as some official channels run by people who produced the show the channel contains. Please note that some of these are also personal suggestions that are 100% independent and not affiliated with any show/brand.
First off, we have Wink Martindale (yes, as in Tic Tac Dough and Gambit host Wink Martindale) and the ongoing series of uploads that goes by the label "Wink's Vault" where he (and his social media team) fishes out some of the rarest game show material out there, including things from shows that did air that didn't make it to the show for one reason or another (example: an April Fools joke on Peter Tomarken one Press Your Luck taping, using actual contestants from an episode that WOULD tape afterwards and be aired). However, the majority of his videos are things that were not picked up, never been seen by the public, and for some of them, never even been heard of!
Case in point is this most recent upload (as of the this blog post):
the pilot of The Parent Game, something I had no knowledge of until this past Friday when the pilot came up on my Youtube feed.
Other channels I keep tabs on or sub to includes:
- (https://www.youtube.com/@starcadetvv, (the official channel for Starcade, the game show where the bulk of the game was based on the then-new and then-popular arcade games of the 80s, run by the surviving producer of the original series)
- https://www.youtube.com/@DaThings (a Youtube Pooper who has tackled topics ranging from infomercials to a now 10 year old April Fools episode of The Price is Right)
- https://www.youtube.com/@iteachvader (while inactive, he's done a heck of a job keeping the tradition alive of the Robotnik subset of Youtube Poops using Adventues of Sonic The Hedgehog footage...also, Mice)
- https://www.youtube.com/@PowerRangersOfficial (has almost ALL the seasons uploaded, with 1-21 (Mighty Morphin' 1 to Super Megaforce) being in playlists even though they have the Dino (Super) Charge seasons (22 and 23) on there as well. The only seasons the channel does NOT have the full season of are (Super) Ninja Steel, both Beast Morphers seasons, and both from Dino Fury (including Cosmic Fury), though as of when I'm typing this, those are on Netflix
- https://www.youtube.com/@TotallySpiesChannel (yes, I'm admitting to watching this on Cartoon Network back when the show was on... IDK what it was about the show: the action, the friendship between the 3 main characters, or just how well put together the show is)
(another one that can be embarrassing to admit to watching at first, IMO. But seeing how the show integrated the 2d animation style for the real world segments and the 3d animation for Lyoko itself made it unique at the time. And as a bonus, the channel has a subtitled sequel series that never made it out of France (thus, no dub)) - https://www.youtube.com/@dealornodealuniverse
(Ok, this is more up my alley. As of right now, they have the same episodes of the original NBC primetime run a lot of the other streaming services has, skips included. BUT this channel also includes the $500,000 SYNDICATED version which I've heard played a lot more like the UK version of the show (which there is one playlist of on the channel) as well as the current reboot season of Aussie DOND)
At one point it was uploading episodes of Bob Saget's tenure as the host of America's Funniest Home Videos (complete with all the fixings that would probably be plastered over with modern plugs if aired today) as well as eventually getting to having the first half of America's Funniest People's original run.
Things were running along nicely, with season 6 finished being published and made public when some strange things started happening: first the audio for the season 7 uploads were (from what I could tell) the Youtube royalty free library. Then the big shake up: All the episodes disappeared. Why? While the guy running the channel had connections to, and the blessing, of Vin Di Bona and his production company.... ABC/Disney had other ideas. So there went a few years of uploads. At least they kept the AFP episodes and did some streams here and there, including one with ALL 8 OF BOB'S SEASONS (not to mention John Fugelsang and Daisy Fuentes's 2 seasons that bridged Bob's era to Tom Bergeron's 15 seasons) that ran on loop for a good while.
BTW, when the modern show did a plug to announce that America's Funniest People was a thing they were doing (again), there went the 2 seasons with Dave Coulier and Arleen Sorkin from the AFVClassics channel. In fact, I doubt it's a fan run channel anymore.
Is it bad that I gave a longer explanation to an honorable mention than to any of the others?
Now for Twitch: There's some voice actresses in this mix as well as a couple guys I knew from WAY back, when the game show homebrew scene was more active:
- https://www.twitch.tv/micheleknotz (Variety streamer: known outside of Twitch as a voice actress who's voiced quite a few humans and Pokemon in said franchise, among being in other franchises)
- https://www.twitch.tv/erinfitzgerald (haven't streamed in a while, but I usually see her stream Talos Principle when she does: Voice credits includes a role in said game's sequel, 2 of the 3 Kanker sisters on Ed Edd n Eddy, and Chie Satonaka in Persona 4 Golden (and later spinoffs)
- https://www.twitch.tv/bigjon (yes, the same one who've done the Price is Right, Wheel of Fortune, and Press Your Luck games you've seen on my channel for a long time. However, I have this feeling he's moved on from programming/tinkering with said games. Also of note that as of the time of the blog post, he's going through personal issues, so he has his stream on autopilot using a self-created game he made in Unity for the members of the stream to pass the time with)
- https://www.twitch.tv/kingvl_ (also related to the bigjon gaming stuff, as it's his face you see when you enable host videos on Bigjon's Wheel of Fortune. Word of note: he streams late at night/early in the morning (as of West Coast)
